K and L Western Store Xcart Install

We were delighted to work with two young ladies who operate a brick and mortar store in North Carolina that specializes in western wear and accessories. Our primary purpose was to assist them in setting up and configuring their Xcart and doing modest changes to the default skin to give it a ‘western’ flair. Our setup included getting their USPS account configured and tested, establishing all the necessary default information regarding their company, location and contact info, and configuring their payment processing methods.

We also provided several hours of phone tutorial support in order to walk through the process of adding products, uploading images, and associating their product options.

Mimosa Hostilis Xcart Customization

Recently we were asked to assist in the installation, setup and configuration for a new Xcart customer, MimosaHostilis.com.mx. Their cart was a basic install utilizing one of the skins that ships with the newest 4.3 version.

The client was happy with the overall design but needed to have the following steps taken to get their store ready for business:

modify their logo to fit within Xcart parameters
Create multiple versions of the logo for invoice, checkout and main page purposes
modify product display to eliminate sku display
modify category product display to include links to View Cart and Checkout so customer would not need to scroll up constantly to reach main menu.
configure and activate shipping via USPS
configure PayPal payment method

Mimosa Hostilis Xcart Customization

MistKing Custom Xcart Design

We have just finished the creation and integration of a custom skin for a recently upgraded Xcart for MistKing.com. The project involved creating a clean design based on the color scheme of the logo and prepare it for use with the latest version of X-cart Gold, 4.3, which uses predominantly CSS as its template core.

Some of the challenges included the need to modify multiple CSS files since one was used as the “Main CSS” and another used for specific elements of the core skin that was chosen to customize. This turned out to be the Light & Lucid default theme since it gave us the two-column look the client was looking for. Despite its simplistic look, this skin proved challenging in getting the elements to properly align in the various browsers. However, after MUCH tinkering, we were able to successfully integrate the design into the cart.

Shopping Cart Image Zoom

Anyone who operates an online store always faces a common dilema. How do we provide the best view of our products? Traditionally shopping carts allow you to upload a thumbnail and larger view image. Some allow for multiple detail images and perhaps even a slideshow. But let’s say you have something highly detailed and wish to provide a simple yet elegant way to allow your shoppers to view your products in high detail by just mousing over the image. A fantastic zoom utility program that plugs into most popular shopping cart systems can do just that.

Zoom Example

The zoom utility allows for the shopper to simply mouse over your product images and immediately a popover window appears with the zoomed effect mirroring the area of the image their mouse is currently over. The shopper can move the mouse around and view different areas of the image and product. The shopper also has the ability to click on the image and view a larger high definition version of the product image which closes easily with a click of the mouse.

If the shopper decides to click on the image a full version of the product image is displayed. This is an ultra-fast and cross-browser system utilizing a combination of Flash and Javascript to acheive its effect.

However, these skins are limited in their themes and further enhancement is needed in order to reflect the nature of your products or service.

Custom Skins

X-Cart utilizes a combination of CSS and HTML to acheive its layout and styling. Custom skins can be created utilizing the Smarty template system (included with Xcart) coupled with custom graphics and color schemes.

The standard skins shipped with X-Cart are best viewed as a starting point for layout and styling and should not be considered as the final solution to your design needs.

X-Cart Installations

SimcoMedia provides several e-Commerce services involving X-Cart Gold and Pro versions, one of the most popular e-Commerce platforms available. Our installation services assure you that your cart will be installed and functioning properly in order for you to begin inserting products.

Installation Process

The installation process consists of the following:

Download and upack the latest X-Cart release
FTP all files to your hosting account
Set all required permissions for the installation
Establish your MySQL database and user credentials
Run the X-Cart installation script
Select the skin you wish to set as your initial default
Complete the installation and record your re-install code
Configure your company information (phone, email and address)

Our fees for general installation are $75 which includes the steps above. We also offer the following optional installation and setup services:

Shipping module configuration – UPS/USPS/FedEx – $50 (requires you have an existing online account)
Payment processor configuration – $50 (only valid for processing providers already integrated with X-Cart)

X-Cart Product Import

If you have several hundred or more products the X-Cart product import feature will save valuable time in getting your products inserted. However, the import feature requires varying degrees of preparation including:

Creating a spreadsheet with complete product information including weights, image references, product numbers, etc.
Having product detail and thumbnail images available and referenced in the spreadsheet for each product
Having your categories specified for each product

X-Cart’s import feature validates each image and category during the import process. The import file must be 100% accurate or the import process will fail each time it can not find the category or image(s) specified. The most common causes for failure are the misspelling of image names (they do not match the name of the actual image, have upper or lowercase letters missing, etc.) and missing categories.

Client needed complete e-Commerce system to showcase and sell custom jewelry imported directly from their manufacturer in Paris, France. This included inventory control and product insertion.

The client provided professional photos of jewelry and the on-model shots for us to prepare for web use. Our tasks included the creation of the product and category databases, optimization for all product graphics, site design based upon client brochures, and search engine placement.
